Too many words....

NOT ENOUGH TIME! I would love to write more about this video below, but I'm extremely busy. In short, this video was very impacting and I'm soo pumped they are showing it on BET right now. It's a great tool to make people realize that if babies are aborted...we'll be missing out on some very influencial people (whether they are the president, a teacher, an artist, etc...you get my point)!

Ok...so I just tried to put the video on here. I found it at this link.

Cute movies...but not for kids!

Ok, I love (Absouletly LOVE) movies! I especially love movies that I can go watch that are clean, and don't leave me regretting I wasted eight bucks on garabage! But I'm realizing it's getting far and few between!

For instance over the past few weeks, I've seen two pretty cute movies that were rated PG. I was soo pumped when I saw they were rated PG...I almost NEVER (can't say never because I have) watch rated R movies. Usually most movies that I've wanted to see over the past several years are PG-13. Knowing that they are more mature ratings, I knew there could be some not so clean material in them. But I've even been suprised with what not clean material has been in them...way WORSE than I imagined. The last two movies I've seen were Marley & Me and Bride Wars. Now let me first say that I really enjoyed both of these movies! There were good things about both and not soo good things about them both as well.

But my BEEF is that they were rated PG!!! They were definately both really fun chick flicks, but should have been rated PG 13 in my opinion. First of all, Marley & Me was advertised as a "family movie" all Christmas long. When my parents, sis, bro-in-law, Scott, and I took our niece and nephew on Christmas night...we realized how un-family friendly the movie really was. There was several foul words, adult humor, and sexual content. Their wasn't any real nudity (except Jennifer Aniston's bare shoulders (but you knew she was undressing from the context), but it was too much for my 6 year old nephew and 10 year old niece (which my sister took out of the movie 5 minutes into it to go see a children's movies & they got their money back). I did appreciate the movie's positive slant on marriage and family! It was a great married couples movie! I had the same problems with Bride Wars, although I didn't take any children...I knew an 11 or 12 year old could get into it without any problems. The movie didn't have as much profanity (that I remember), but showed a bachelorette party that showed male dancers (and lots of tequila shots). Definately, not what I would picture for a PG movie!
I looked up what the Motion Picture Association of America specified what made a movie PG:
A PG-rated motion picture should be investigated by parents before they let their younger children attend. The PG rating indicates, in the view of the Rating Board, that parents may consider some material unsuitable for their children, and parents should make that decision. The more mature themes in some PG-rated motion pictures may call for parental guidance. There may be some profanity and some depictions of violence or brief nudity. But these elements are not deemed so intense as to require that parents be strongly cautioned beyond the suggestion of parental guidance. There is no drug use content in a PG-rated motion picture.
What most suprised me by this description is that they said some profanity (Marley & Me had to have atleast 15 cuss words) and brief nudity. Really, come one, their can be brief nudity in PG (family friendly) movies. What is next G movies showing nudity...and I do know there are cuss words in some G rated kid's films.
I guess what I've learned is that the best bet is to go to Christian websites to check out why the films are rated what they are and for parents to screen ALL films before taking their children to see them. Maybe I'm niave or have a bad memory...but I don't remember G or PG movies having quite the mature issues that they do today! I guess that is just the way sin ruins and deteriorates all aspects of our world.
On a POSITIVE NOTE you should all check out the new Christian/Family Friendly (seriously, it is!) movie that is due to hit theaters in the fall of 2009. It's coming to Owensboro on September 18th. We (MentorKids) were able to have a special viewing because it has soo much to do with mentoring! Check it out: The Secrets of Jonathon Sperry http://www.sperrymovie.com/

Wow...I missed blogging about all the holiday fun!

I can't believe Christmas and the all the holiday festivities are already over! It always makes me a little sad and a little relieved to get back to normal schedules! Scott and I really enjoyed our first Christmas together. It was a blast to send out cards, decorate the house, remind each other of Christ's birth, and experience the joy of being each others family! We also loved spending time with each of our families and friends. Here is a a delayed pic we gave our families for Christmas!

Hope you all enjoyed the blessings and wonders of the season.
